Firm friends for years, setting up Rampton Baseley was the natural consequence of a shared ambition to create an estate agency that was truly different and simply better. We were running two of Northcote Road's most successful estate agencies, and would often meet to discuss the market over a pint or two; trying to prise information and ideas out of each other. More often than not, we found that we were the final two on our clients' short-lists; and it was this healthy rivalry that fuelled our ambition and shaped what has become one of the most successful local businesses.
Our idea
The idea was simple. Firstly, acquire a prime site on Northcote Road (not as easy as you might think – even for estate agents); secondly, get the basics right from day one: be clear, prompt and above all honest in all of our communications with our vendors and prospective clients; thirdly, ensure that we offer media exposure that is second to none. Finally, and most importantly, we set out to surround ourselves with the very best people we had come across throughout our careers.
It's about people
It's only about people! The best estate agents share two essential qualities. They are first and foremost honest; and secondly, possess a very strong work ethic. Our hand-picked team has these qualities in abundance; as well as enthusiasm, common sense, determination... we could go on.
And of course they have the requisite experience of conveyancing and the lettings process, as well as an unrivalled knowledge and understanding of the local area. All of these skills are acquired over time, and are a key part of what makes us different. And help keep us different.
It seems to be working
The simple principles upon which we built our company seem to be working for our clients. A recent survey of a leading property search engine showed that we were handling over 40% of all house sales in the £800,000 to £1,300,000 bracket in SW11. Not bad when there are over 30 agents in our area. Meanwhile, our lettings department goes from strength to strength, following the acquisition of one of the area's longest established agents. And our ambition and commitment to offering the very best client service remains undiminished. As does our desire to continue to offer the personal service that only independence affords.
